Back when I lived in San Francisco I always thought that since the term "The Foot of Market Street" was used by everyone as a landmark that there should be some public artwork, maybe a sculpture of a big giant foot to mark the spot. You know, like one of those horse statues you see in public places all over the world? Such a piece of public art wouldn't fit in my carry on luggage, but a small letterbox by the same name did on a recent trip to my hometown. I must have been hungry when I made this box...
The face of the Foot of Market has changed many, many times over the years. It's changed yet again since I lived in The City a decade ago. Back then the Ferry Building was a tired, depressing place and the Embarcadero Freeway was still there and still butt ugly.

The area on the waterfront side has been transformed into a vibrant Market Place where each Tuesday and Saturday the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market takes place. It's also the place to spot a foot you've seen already if you really look around, but not the one you seek!
Do grab some yummy picnic supplies to fill your belly in any number of quiet little secret urban spots I discovered years ago - before, during or after taking this short history walking tour (that's what you do with feet afterall) with me is part of the plan, after all.
You'll have to use your Eyes, then Feet to wander while learning about some SF, Market, and produce history. Everything you need is right at your Fingertips.Produce markets are nothing new in this area. In fact, a wholesale commercial one existed for decades only a few blocks away and was known by various names, including the SF Produce District. So naturally, if you miss the Foot of Market..market... rest assured the way is safe... to feed your face.
So come on!

Only one small part of all the old produce market buildings remains.
Keep wandering along the walking tour until you find it.

You will only apPREciate and know what I mean if you've given your fingers a workout first!
Be safe and find the way for some free, blue news. Inside upper right and front corner.
Sneaky magnetic urban letterbox. Handmade stamp but no logbook as that's easier to maintain. Box has gone missing once already. Discretion please! If box goes missing again, it will be retired.
Please return box *exactly* per CLUES - not (necessarily) where found where someone left it/ just any old place so that those who follow you will also be able to snag and grab without being too obvious about it.
Plenty of wonderful places nearby to enjoy that picnic and stamp in.
